iRant

One of the things that made the original internet rant scene so entertaining was that practically anybody could take part in it. You didn’t need followers, a personal brand, or an algorithm to decide that your opinion was worthy of being seen. You wrote whatever was pissing you off, uploaded it to your website, and hoped somebody stumbled across it.

Was all of it good? Of course not. A lot of those rants were poorly written garbage created by people who had no idea what they were talking about. But every so often, you found something funny, insightful, completely deranged, or entertaining enough to keep reading. That unpredictability was part of the appeal.

Our iRant feature is an attempt to bring some of that spirit back.

Through iRant, Rantlister staff members and readers can submit their own rants for publication. You can write about politics, culture, the internet, social issues, daily annoyances, or whatever else has been eating away at you. Maybe you have a serious argument to make. Maybe you just spent twenty minutes trapped behind some asshole doing ten miles under the speed limit and need somewhere to complain about it.

Some submissions will be thoughtful. Others will be funny, angry, ridiculous, or completely unhinged. A few might even be good.

Most will probably suck.

That’s okay. The old rant scene was never about polished professionals carefully optimizing content for engagement. It was about regular people getting behind a keyboard and saying what was on their minds. iRant gives you a place to do exactly that.

iRant Submission Guidelines

The criteria for submitting an iRant is pretty simple.

iRants can be about whatever. Anything from politics to pop culture, the internet to movies and television, daily annoyances, or whatever else you feel like ranting about. Rants should be readable and at least somewhat interesting. They don’t need to be perfect, but they should have a clear point and some personality behind them.

A few basic rules apply:

  • Submissions must be original writing. Using AI to touch up your writing is fine, but submissions that look entirely AI-generated will not be published.
  • No spam or promotional content. If you have your own website, you can include a link to it in your submission, but if your article exists only to promote your website then it won’t be published.
  • No plagiarism.
  • No illegal content.
  • Rantlister reserves the right to edit or reject submissions. The author will be notified of any edits made.

Most rants should fall somewhere around 400 to 1,200 words, though submissions outside that range may still be considered if they’re good.
